De Groene Vlieg

Established in 1980, De Groene Vlieg (The Green Fly) has been part of the HLB group since September 2014 and employs over 100 people. We focus on pest control in open field agriculture and horticulture through the application of biological agents and soil analysis at individual field level. All of our environmentally friendly services are tailored to the individual wishes and needs of our clients.

We currently use Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) for the onion fly. At our production location in Nieuwe Tonge a large number of maggots, pupae and sterile flies is produced annually for use as biological pest control. The pupae, produced as spin-off, could also be used in chicken feed, for example.

In the future, it is expected that the use of SIT for the onion fly will increase. The company will investigate the use of SIT for other insects as well.
